The Die-In is a symbolic, theatrical event (as a Sit-in or a Bed-In). In 1976, the collective Le Monde à Bicyclette (http://www.impacs.org/charities/Resources/monde) organized the first Die-In in Montreal. This organization, carried out by Claire Morissette and Robert Silverman, with constant effort, militated for the cause of the pedestrians and the cyclists, especially on Montreal island. For the foreword of the book "Deux roues, un avenir", Robert Silverman described with emotion the atmosphere of this autumn day of of the year 1976.
Every day, cyclist, pedestrians and motorists alike realize that the situation is getting constantly worse in our metropolis: the number of cars on our streets increase every year. A Die-In ask for its participants to mimic death at the intersection of two streets. Ketchup, bindings or other significant elements are welcome. We wish to commemorate the death and the wounds caused by all kinds of motorized vehicles. Theses represent thousands of montrealers and millions of people in the world annually.
We want to see several concrete measures which actually converge in a point: To rather give precedence to the human being than to the car in the urban development.
